I am a regular dry body brusher. But once in a while I do lapse and then while I don’t get dry skin as such, it does get a bit lacklustre in appearance and doesn’t maintain its softness.

I have a been a bit busy for the past few weeks (assignment deadlines and travelling) and I haven’t been body brushing. SO to combat the not soft but not dry skin I’ve whipped up a DIY body scrub. I mix various versions of this depending on my mood (the scents are changed) but the basis of this scrub remains the same.

It is super quick to make and you can use whatever oils you have lying around in your kitchen cabinets. It leaves your skin so soft, moisturised and “healthy looking”.

What you’ll need:

  • coarse sea salt
  • fine table salt
  • various natural oils of your choice (I used extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin coconut oil, almond oil)
  • half a lemon
  • a teaspoon of ginger
  • a jar with a lid
  • spoon
  • a grater

Method:

1. Pour coarse salt and fine table salt (in a proportion of 2:1) in a bowl

2. Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (if you live in a warm country your coconut oil is liquid and it is a solid in cooler climates)

3. Add almond oil and olive oil

4. Stir well until all the salt is covered in the oil

(if you have too much oil at this point then add more salt)

5. Grate the skin of half a lemon and add to the mixture

6. Add a teaspoon of ginger powder

(use fresh grated ginger if you don’t have powder)

8. Squeeze the juice from the lemon and stire well

9. Ta-dah, Use in the shower to scrub away your skin

(do not use on broken/damaged skin or if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients. This will make your shower slippery- as there is lots of oil in there, so take care not to slip)

I also like using lavender essential oil/grapefruit essential oil (grapefruit smells ridiculously amazing)

So there you have it, a quick DIY body scrub that rivals store bought ones.

Try it, I dare you 🙂

p.s. this will also make a nice DIY gift for someone; just stick a pretty bow on it.
